St George’s Church

St George’s Church is the Anglican Church in the centre of the village just off the lower green.

For information about services in Reynoldston please see http://www.gowerma.org

The original church was built in the 13th century and dedicated to St. George (a reminder of the Anglo-Norman origins of Reynoldston). By the mid-18th century the church had fallen into disrepair and was too small for the needs of the congregation. In1867 the building was pulled down and rebuilt from its foundations at a cost of £1500, with a vestry added in 1906.

This present church is an example of Victorian Gothic architecture. The font and a few memorials from the old church and its vault were retained in the new building. One of the two bells is dated 1733.The only remaining feature of the original church building is a lancet window in the south wall.

In addition to St. George’s the Benefice consists of five other churches in the area. They are:

  • Port Eynon – St Cattwg’s
  • Rhossili – St Mary’s
  • Oxwich – St Illtyd’s
  • Penrice – St Andrew’s
  • Llandewi – St David’s
